Sisters of Craft "Anything Goes" December Challenge

1st December already !  Hard to believe, and it's so mild out too, not like the Decembers from years gone by....yet !

This time our Challenge is sponsored by Nikki Burnette

The prize is 3 stamps from her store.

I chose to use her image entitled "Riley".  I used a gaming theme and found some playing cards in a Hunkydory kit....I knew I had them but when I found them they were too big, so I cut the small ones from the inspiration sheet that came with the kit, they were just the right size !

I covered her jacket, hat-band and cat's hat with glitter left over from a previous card, a mixture of green, gold and purple, then I used my distress ink markers to colour her hat, hair, belt etc., and her cat. Her skin is coloured with an Ivory Promarker.  I used double sided tape covered with glitter as a sort of "sunburst" background, with a Tattered Lace pocket watch diecut and Tattered Lace corner flourish diecuts from gold mirri card.  I added a couple of hat feathers and a Hunkydory sentiment to finish off.  Hope you like her !

Don't forget to join in with the challenge...check out the blog at http://www.sistersofcraft.blogspot.com/

Hobby House, Gorjuss and lots of sparkle

Here are three cards made by myself in the past few months.  I used Hobby House products for the first one..I just dusted around the edge of the topper with Spun Sugar distress ink, added some ribbon and punched out three little flowers...

For the second one I used some of the Santoro Gorjuss products which I bought ages ago and have never even opened !...the scalloped edges of paper are from another sheet of backing paper used on a previous card..waste not, want not !...

The third one is a fun card, made for a sparkly competition...I used double side tape, covered it with glitter, then added three sparkly flowers and added some gems...

Sisters of Craft "Anything Goes" November Challenge

Here we are on the 1st November, which means the start of another challenge !  This time our sponsor is Lemon Shortbread....

and the prize is 3 digis from the store.

I chose to use the "Owl on Branch" digi image.  I coloured it in using promarkers Pastel Pink, Cocoa, Tan, Yellow and Cool Grey 3, and added some Creative Expressions/Phill Martin Cosmic Shimmer Twinkles in Frosty Mink, a lovely colour in my opinion !

I found some pre punched leaves that I kept in a little pot and used them to add some autumn leaves to the tree, and the backing paper is one I bought from Little Claire, I am afraid the name eludes me, but it was perfect with all the little owls "hooting" in the background !  The card base is just a white 6 x 6 which I've used in a tent like fashion as opposed to the normal style.  I also used a sentiment from a Becky Seddon kit I recently bought.  Hope you like it.

Sisters of Craft "Anything Goes" October Challenge

September seems to have flown by, and here we are again with a new challenge at the start of October.

Our sponsor this month is Julia Spiri, and the prize is two images from her store.

I used the "Girl on a Mushroom" image, and here is what I made.  I chose an autumn theme, and for a change I coloured her in with watercolour pencils, apart from the large leaf, ladybird and cherries, for which I used a sparkly gel pen.  I also used Stardust stickles on the mushroom.  I edged the image with Frayed Burlap distress ink.  The background paper is from a DCWV Posies stack, the autumn leaves, owl and bird embellishments all came from my stash, and I found a "Nature" sticker, which I thought went well with the theme.  Hope you like it.  (I also entered this into Julia Spiri's challenge as it's the first one of her images I have used, I think they are lovely !http://juliaspirichallengeblog.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/challenge-03.html  )

Summer Days

I made three cards recently to enter into a competition being held in a Facebook group I belong to.  The theme was simply "Summer".  Here's what I came up with using Faye Whittaker decoupage on the first one and then some of the Hunkydory products which I have accumulated over the years on the other two.

Sisters of Craft "Anything Goes" September Challenge

Well, after a very wet, windy and miserable Bank Holiday Monday yesterday, we now have blue sky and sunshine on the 1st September !  Isn't that just typical !  Many local events were ruined yesterday due to the bad weather, I bet the organisers aren't happy today looking out at how lovely it is.  Such a shame after all the hard work they put into things.

Of course the 1st of the month heralds a new challenge for us, and this time our sponsor is The Paper Nest Dolls.

The prize is a mystery $25 stamp package for those in the U.S., and for those outside it's 8 digis from the store.

Here is my card....Introducing "Hammock Owen"...

Firstly I dusted the digi with Faded Jeans Distress Ink, then coloured in with promarkers.    I used a piece of holiday themed backing paper by Krafty Hands, (I thought the palm trees went well with a hammock !), and edged the digi with a selection of my many buttons, tying a thread of  bakers twine in one of them.  I have a bit of a thing for buttons, and usually just look at them and put them away again, but I thought it was about time I used a few !  Then just for fun I added googley eyes to Owen and his dog, so they follow you around the room !  I found some epoxy stickers and used the "Enjoy" one in the corner.  Hope you like it.

Come and join in the fun at www.sistersofcraft.blogspot.com

We also have a new Facebook group where you can share all your makes and join in various competitions, just look us up and pop by !  Here's the link ....https://www.facebook.com/groups/135585893441223/permalink/166952850304527/

Just Married

I entered a card competition recently in which the theme was "Wedding".  I don't make many cards of this nature so had to stop and think.  I like simple designs and remembered buying some embellishments a few years ago which I thought would fit the bill nicely.  Here's what I came up with.

Saturday 1 August 2015

Sisters of Craft "Anything Goes" August Challenge

Happy August everyone !  Let's hope it heralds more of a summer than we've so far experienced, we have had so much torrential rain here, it's been more like the monsoon season !

The sponsor for our challenge this month is Polkadoodles. I used the "Snow White" image, and for a change I dug out my Sakura jelly roll pens.  I haven't used them for ages, and once I got some Promarkers, the Sakuras took a back seat, so it was nice to resurrect them.  I don't have loads, but am pleased to say most of the ones still worked, and I used some of the metallic ones too, which created a lovely, yet subtle, glittery effect.  It might not show so well in the picture, but her dress, some of her hair and a few flowers were coloured with these ones and I was pleased with the result.

I also used Promarkers (Cool Grey 3 and Tan) for the tree and her skin colour (Ivory), and then I added in each corner what I think is my new favourite craft item..the Tonic Nuvo Crystal drops.  I have built up my collection and they are great for creating finishes touches in the corner and you can literally make your own pearl drops/gems, as they dry quickly and can be any size you like.  Great array of colours too.  I found some alphabet stickers with pop out flowers, which I though might suit the theme, and the backing paper behind the image is from one of my Creata paper pads. Hope you like my creation.

Don't forget, this is our sponsor for August...

and the prize is 2 digis from the Store.

Sisters of Craft "Anything Goes" July Challenge

Here we are on the 1st July, the hottest day of the year so far !  Lovely to see and feel some sunshine.  Our little cat Minnie is experiencing her first day outside today after being confined for over 5 weeks following an injury.  She was signed off by the vet yesterday, and it was quite difficult letting her out in the big wide world again today.  She still has a limp so we are going to compromise and keep her in at night, just for a while.  Ok, back to the Challenge, this month our sponsor is Sweet Pea Designs, and the prize is 3 digis from the store.

A touch of "Tres Chic"

Here are a couple of cards I made using elements from the "Tres Chic" kit I bought from one of the Create and Craft "Creata"  TV shows last year ....shame they aren't on anymore, I used to enjoy watching Carley.  The backing papers are from a paper pad I bought from Little Claire....the name escapes me at the moment, but it went well with the kit.  I also used some Glossy Accents on the flowers and the birds wings, together with some glamour dust.

Wall Art and Smiley Faces

I entered an "Anything Goes" challenge recently, and made a little hanging plaque and a fun card with Smiley flowers....to my amazement the flower card won !  Funny thing was I was tight for time and quickly put them together between helping my husband to mow the lawn, which goes to show that sometimes the less time you have to make something, the better it turns out, as you haven't got time to dither !  Here they are...

Whimsy stamp
Bows, gems and glitter

Sisters of Craft "Anything Goes" May Challenge

Here we are again at the start of a new month, let's hope the weather starts to warm up now we are into May !  Of course, the start of a new month heralds another challenge on the Sisters of Craft blog, and our sponsor this month is Art by Miran, and the prize is 3 Digi Images from the Store.

I used the 1920's Flapper Girl image, it's an era that I would have liked to have lived through, so any images from this time always appeal to me.  I used a Hunkydory Art Deco style card blank and coloured the image using Promarkers.  I added a couple of real feathers, with nailhead stickers and a large gem for her head-dress, coloured a cream flower blue (with a promarker) and stuck it on her dress, with some glamour dust sprinkled on top, and then brought her necklace to life by sticking tiny gems in clear, blue and pink, for a bit of added "jazz" !

The silver mat is cut from a Spellbinders "Tileworks" die, and the silver feathers are cut from a Joy die.  I couldn't think what kind of sentiment to use until my husband mentioned the word "Party", and I remembered some peel offs I had, and he is also the mind behind the musical notes die cuts (which were some "Happy Post" from a friend).  So, thanks to David for the finishing touches....I'll get him into card making  and crafting yet !!  Hope you like my project, please come and join in with the challenge, it's good fun, the prizes are always great and we love to see your creations !

Time for tea

Here's a card I made for a swap with a fellow group member.  I used a pink card blank for the base and cut down a pale green card from the same pack to make the mat layer.  I then used Phill Martin's tea stamps to create a background using Stazon ink and added a Creata decoupage design for the main image, with a touch of glamour dust on the teapot.  I added a strip of hessian across the middle with some dotty green ribbon for a bit of texture.  Hope you like it !

Decorated stick pins and holders

Today would have been my Mum's 90th birthday (sadly she passed aged only 56), and in memory of her I thought I would share pictures of two lots of decorated stick pins and the holders I made for them when I took part recently in a swap.  Mum liked to make things herself and I think she would have liked these.  I added beads and charms to the pins, then made the holders for them using card from my stash, Creata decorative papers, flowers, butterflies, dragonflies and sentiment banners.  I also made little wraps for them to keep them closed.  So, there you go Mum, these are for you :o)

Set One :

 Set Two :

For the man who has everything....?

I thought I would share a picture of the card I made for my husband's birthday.  He is very difficult to buy for and to make cards for, but I suppose that's not unusual !  We share the same birthday and he is 15 years older than me.  I was 55 this year which meant he hit the milestone of 70.  He wasn't very keen to have it celebrated but I sneaked the age onto the card anyway and incorporated his two main hobbies which are photography and Amateur Radio.  He is a licensed radio "ham" (that term originates, I believe, from the days when radios were being used more and the operators were called "ham-fisted" when trying to use all the dials), hence the call sign and other letters on the card.  The card blank is Hunkydory cardstock, with camera decoupage and a globe detailing the links across the world when he transmits on the radio.  I added a little cat peel off as we have 4 cats :o)

Monday 2 March 2015

Z is for....

Here's a card I made over the weekend....the challenge was an ABC one, using the letter Z.  I suddenly remembered I had ordered some zips from The Works a couple of months ago, so decided to use one, together with some adhesive material (also from The Works...lots of bargains to be had there !), and this is what I came up with.  Nice to do something a bit different !  I may stick a circular sentiment on it, like a badge, not sure yet...

Sisters of Craft "Anything Goes" March Challenge

Well, I don't know where February went, but it certainly didn't hang around very long.  I am starting March off with a nasty cold, which is a bit of a pain. Not had one for a year, so I suppose I'm due ! Anyway, as it's the 1st of the month the Sister's of Craft Challenge launches once again and this time we are using designs from The Paper Shelter.

I chose a decoupage image called "My Hair" which I downloaded and printed off.

I made an easel card using a square pale green card base, with the backing paper design from TPS mounted onto green mirror card, and I cut out three layers of decoupage.  I used Stardust and Patina stickles on the image, and added the "Bad Hair Day" banner on a piece of ribbon, just for a bit of fun.  I also used pink mirror card, and cut a line of little flowers using a Martha Stewart punch to create the stopper line for the easel.  I also added a gel sticker which I had coloured green using a promarker pen.  Hope you like it !

Items used

Pale green card base
TPS "My Hair" decoupage design
Creata pink and green mirror card
Stardust and Patina stickles
Creata gel sticker
Martha Stewart punch
Ribbon

The lucky winner will receive a $15 voucher from The Paper Shelter to spend in their store, so I hope you all join in and we look forward to seeing all your entries.

Denim Owl

Here's a little card I made using the Kanban Denim and Lace kit. plus a few bits and bobs from my crafty stash.  The lace is stick -on, and I inked it up a bit using Spun Sugar distress ink.  The small bunting type trim along the top is the excess left after using an EK Success punch to cut a decorative edge.

Birthday !

Today is my birthday, and it's also my husband's birthday !  He is 15 years older than me and we met through work quite a few years ago now.  I'd never met anyone with the same birthday as myself and most people are surprised when we tell them we share the same day.  We went out for a bite to eat with my sister today, she has recently moved into the area, and we had a very nice peaceful day :)

Sisters of Craft "Anything Goes" February Challenge

Well, it's the first of the month again, and this time our sponsor is Scrappiness Designs, where you can find lots of lovely digital kits.

I used their "Farm Life" kit to create a scrapbook page.

We have a 2 acre field and a couple of years running, with the help of a local farmer, we had the hay harvested for local horses, and here are a couple of pictures taken at the time in 2012 and 2013.   I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 to create this page using the above kit.  There were many things to chose from and I had fun designing it....this is a relatively new venture for me, which shows how user friendly the Scrappiness Designs are.  I hope you like it !

Origami anyone ?!

I entered a competition recently to make a card that included something using the paper folding technique of Origami.  Years ago when I was a youngster someone bought me some paper and an instruction book, but I didn't get very far with it.  I've never bothered with it since, but thought I'd have a go this time, and, after finding a Youtube video I managed to fold a cat, and made this card using my third attempt.  I made it into a little "homage" to one of my favourite songs "Love Cats" by The Cure.
